i can't afford a teacher so i'm mainly learning from tabs off the internet. everybody makes it seem so easy so how is it so entirely hard?! any ideas that could possibly help? i've played piano for 9 years so i don't know if that's going to help or hurt my ability to learn/play guitar (or effect me at all).

Its not algebra. So don't try to make it hard. Tabs are great. but you do need to know what chords you are playing. It will help you with Arpegios also.

Practice Practice practice. Do not wear gloves. Your fingers will hurt but not forever. You need the calluses to play.

Playing piano should help you learn to read music and relate to the guitar.

I taught myself how to play at 42. Couldn't play a lick prior to that. I still can;t read music but I can read tab and from that I can figure out what someone is doing.

Try the book fretboard logic it will help you relate to the guitar what you already know from piano. O

Practice makes perfect, just like learning the piano. If you been playing the piano for 9yrs your ability to hear the right notes will help in any musical instruments.

i played alto and baritone sax when i was in school (6th grade to 12th grade). when i was 14, i got a bass and a guitar and taught myself how to play both by using Guitar World mags and listening to music and trying to pay along with it. being able to play other instruments helped out a lot, because i knew the scales and was able to apply that to the fretboard. knowing music theory helped, too

They sell instructional DVDs at Walmart and other music stores for pretty cheap. They are very good and explain everything very detailed, it's fool proof.

Wear gloves when you play guitar so you don't injure your fingertips.
