In California state colleges poor blacks, hispanics, etc. are given preferences yet poor Asians are given short shrift. Why?

P.S. - Sorry I meant to say African American and Latin American, I frequently forget to conform with PC dogma.

That's a good question. Asians believe it or not are stereotyped to excel. It is not that they are smarter per se but that they work harder then most as well. This is intertwined in cultural belief that instills this type of work ethic. Arises from Confucius's time period where it is believed that the microcosm affects the macrocosm. This spills into the community. Within Asian Families there is constant competition of who went to what school, who is making more money than whom and they need to keep up...there is stark pressure. There are Asian Families that are poor and struggling but there are only few and in turn, these families invest there totality in their children so that they will be well--rich.
So, I think that it is just the Expectation. The expectation that they are not supposed to be in this this category and so they are treated differently.

Because at least for the time being the regents of most colleges have decided that a more racially diverse student body is more desirable to achieve than not. If that means that there are more Asians who apply to that college than they want to admit, then that's just the way it is. They're the regents and they have the right to set whatever criteria they choose (congruent with their own bylaws) in deciding on the makeup of their student body.

Black and Hispanic is right. But I don't know of many poor Asians. It doesn't seem as common, and that may be because they aren't the majority minority ~ I don't know.

Because asian societies are typically more closed and less likely to be politically active. Blacks and Hispanics have both fought for their rights, and their fight has had results.

Your question includes a false assumption that there is discrimination based on race in the CSU and UC college system. Admissions and aid are not racially biased BY LAW, so maybe you're referring your assumption towards financial aid in the form of private scholarships? I seriously doubt it.

You really shouldn't try to stir up racism by making false statements.

Because they don't complain like the blacks and the Hispanics. They work and know that you don't get anywhere if you just complain.
