Red-ear sliders are a common pet turtle. While most people will kill them of after only a few months, a keeper who knows what they are doing will enjoy them for 20-40 years.
They will hit their full size at about 8-12 years.

Red Eared Slider ofter get as big as a dinner plate (the shell), so you can go from there.

Some breeds live to be hundreds of years old, others a few years.
