My husband has one, my step-daughter has one, and so does or daughter together. I think it depends on how strong the genes are.

The answer to question is in the genetics of the parents. There are dominant and recessive genes in every person. This determines what the person looks like, the personality, what the strong points will be and their weakness.

A gene hangs on two ribbons inside chromosomes, the two form DNA, the code that will determine the eye color, hair, cleft chin, strong heart, all that make up the person. These genes can be found inside every cell in our body. One reason DNA is used in crime solving.

Each parent provides one side of the ribbon code. They will provide a dominant or recessive code for each feature.

Each of these gene are dominant ( most common), or recessive (less common) when there is one or two dominant genes in the pairing, it will have the dominant feature.

When a there are 2 recessive genes the less common feature occurs, red hair, blue eyes, cleft chin.

You know that he is supplying a recessive gene, if you are providing a dominant gene, it probably be normal. But if there is a recessive in your back ground, there may be a chance.

Your doctor can explain it better!

He can also tell you of options to correct this if should occur.

One thing is for the child will carry atleast one recessive gene, which can be passed to the next generation.

Hope all turns out well!

There is a 50/50 chance of getting one. If both parents have a cleft chin, all of their kids will have one. If neither parent has a cleft chin, then none of their kids will. My husband has a cleft chin, and I also have a slight one. Both of our kids have it as well.

There is a very easy way to answer this... you should use a Punnet Square... in this case a cleft chin is recessive and your chin is dominant... you child has a one in four chance of having a cleft chin... because in order to have a recessive gene show you have to have to recessive genes... these are the possible occurrences... rr Dr rD DD... r stands for recessive and D stands for dominant...

A cleft chin is not a parental gene. It goes through the grandparents. 50% chance

So far it seems my son has not inherited my husband's cleft chin (though my 13 month old is said to be my spitting image). You never can tell!

I know what you are going through. I myself was born with a Clef Soft Palette in the back of my throat. I was scared to death that my son would be born with it also. I made the Nurse check before I fed him for the first time. I didn't want any chances. They said that it isn't likely that my offspring would inherit the gene that maybe my offspring's young would. I guess it skips a generation. In my families case though I was the only one who had it. I always contributed it to my mom's smoking while pregnant but I hear that isn't the case either. I wish you all the luck in the world. I hope this answer has helped you out.
