i know that they are very different but who would win? Do not be biased to your favorite band but think about composition skill, speed, rhythm, etc.
Personally i like John Frusciante WAY WAY better. What do you think. Try to support your argument as well.

if it is difficult for you to judge because of the difference in styles think of
1. who would know most about technicality and all those complex details about the guitar
2. if kirk had to play "snow hey oh" or "suck my kiss" and john had to play "wherever i may roam", who would do better?

I am going to have to go with Frusciante on this one- I like Metallica just fine, but John's technical ability is superior. The examples from his own songwriting, as well as his work with the Chili Peppers, speaks for itself. His compositions for string instruments (violin, etc) are also amazing.
I'd love to see them go head to head, better yet throw Yngwie Malmsteen and Eddie Van Halen in there as well. I'd pay big bucks to see that foursome duke it out.

John Frusciante definately has more skills in terms of musicality and stuff, hes skilled enough to play difficult songs like jimi hendrix - machine gun yet he can write beautiful music like under the bridge from the album blood sugar-
Kirk hammett is an awsome guitarist, i really like metallica too, its hard to say because they both play very different styles kirk has great technicle skills so i dunno it would depend on what they both had to play

I am a Metallica fan but I think frusciante is a way better guitarist then hammett.

Kirk, but only with the old stuff. everything before load was great. currently, frusciante is better because metallica's st. anger SUCKED
