Would a girl alone at night be uncomfortable if a strange guy approached her, even if it is just to say, Hi?

My friend and I were arguing about this, I know it's stupid. But I really feel that if a girl is alone at night, it could make her uncomfortable to be approached in any way. Can anyone offer any input? Also, I know there are exceptions to my point, but I am just making a general assumption.

Yes, that would make most girls with common sense uncomfortable. Of course, most girls who are smart, try to avoid being out by themselves late at night. And if your friend is planning on approaching girls who are by themselves, tell him to be careful. Women like me are carrying guns, mace, and may know some serious self-defense moves (like gouging your eyes out with my keys)!

Yes the girl would be uncomfortable and sort of scared. It's a not a good idea to do this especially if she is alone.

I would be uncomfortable. In this day in age, it's safer to assume that if someone approaches you alone and an night its for nefarious reasons. People have to be pro-active about their safety.

He also forgot to mention, that they went into a Post Office, and our friend just simply asked "Hey, how are you doing?". I really don't see how that would make anybody uncomfortable. He didn't approach her or anything. Just simply asked that question.
