All unleashed dogs will attack and frighten sheep on land with public acess under the right to roam. This is causing a major problem on the downs because the cattle destroy the habitat. But the public will not control their dogs and the farmer cannot be there all the time to shoot the dogs down. The Russian sheep guard dogs are much too dangerous. Can a Lllama protect against a three pronged attack by a couple of Terriers and a German Shepherd Dog?

very effective.i have personaly wittnessed a Llama knocking seven shades of **** out of a Labrador that got too close too a heard off sheep.the owner of the Llama also told me that since its arrival his losses of lambs to foxes etc had dropped significantly.it seems that when introduced to a flock they just naturally assume the role of minder.dont know how it would do with the three pronged attack, but my money is on the Llama.

Llamas are bred throughout the South West of the UK, and from my own personal experince trying to hike through a field full of them one time, I would say that they are very effective.

They have similar qualities to donkeys, in that they will kick the crap out of any intruders. Also they tend to flock together, so two or three together would be very effective.

They are also similar to camals, in that they are alright of left alone, but have a really bad attitude otherwise. All in all, they are very effective at guarding sheep and a lot less intrusive than any kind of dog, as they tend to bond with the sheep rather than stress them out.

Another advantage is the wool, but that is a different question.

Well,
Llamas are supposed to be good at defending their teritttory (sp?)
As they spit at anything that comes within its area ,
I dont know how a dog would respond to a big groggy spit flying at their face.
But llamas are big animals, so it could possably do the trick.
