to Internet Explorer. I hit the IE icon after boot and I get a blank page with "Windows Internet Explorer" at the top bar and "connecting" in the tab on the bottom bar. It sits there for a minute or two and then says "www.yahoo.com" in address bar or top bar (don't recall) and Windows Internet Explorer Provided by Yahoo!" Takes about 4 minutes before blank page morphs to Yahoo! page. Also when I begin input or hit "mail" icon there is a delay before a letter hits the page. W/in about 30 seconds it is okay. IE is default. Also have Mozilla Firefox installed for reasons I cannot recall. Thanks for any suggestions.

I have a couple of spyware and virus protection, etc. I think I defrag'd recently. Computer says I am running low on memory and that it was freeing up some. I got rid of a lot of files (memory). I know my computer was hijacked a couple of months ago but I run the software and it is not catching anything of that nature. Does quarantine some viruses.

I am going to have to agree mostly with the other suggestions so far, A lot of this issue can be related to connection speed, processes running in your background, any spy-ware, ad-ware and viruses but it can also be due to such issues as your ISP is having network or line issues or could be that you just need to do some basic clean up in IE, such as clearing cookies cashe history, checking for and removing damaged and unknown objects in IE, checking your security and privacy settings for being at default levels clearing your SSL state, checking for excursive dial up connections from old service providers, checking your LAN settings for any proxies and making sure they match to your Internet service, checking your Internet explorer add ons all of which can be completed by going to tools and Internet options and looking for each of the items I just described by following the various taps across the top. other issues to be aware of though is how old is your system, is it still receiving updates because Microsoft discontinued support for ME, 98 and older systems. The best way to get the issue fixed though is to contact your Internet service provider directly and have them check all these items with you.

Do you have cable internet or dialup? Maybe it's possible that you have either a virus or some kind of spyware that is eating your internet connection and you don't even know it. If you don't have an anti-virus, a good free one is AVG. You can find it at free.avg.com. As for the spyware I would check out Ad Aware by Lavasoft. Another suggestion is, if you do have cable internet, try resetting your modem by unplugging it for a couple of minutes and then plugging it back in.

If you have a dialup connection, that may be the best you can expect. Web content just gets more and more complex, making dialup users more and more miserable.
Other factors could be viruses or spyware. Contrary to popular opinion, dialup connections can catch things, too, you don't have to have broadband to catch a virus. Make sure your antivirus software is up to date. What version of windows are you running, and how much memory do you have? I am showing links to to some generally useful freebies.

An internet connection can become slow or stop working due to a number of reasons depending on the type of the connection. Many of the problems can be solved by making software changes or small hardware corrections. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yl62gz

First what type of internet connection do you have? If you have dial-up well then there is probably no problem, if you use cable/dsl then you probably have to clear your cache and temporary internet files. Maybe you have spyware too. Download Spybot search & destroy and run it. Also you should probably use Mozilla Firefox as it is safer and faster than IE.

what 's the connection speed to the internet? If you're on dialup, it will take a long time for the web pages to load. You need to provide more information as to type of internet connection, expected speed, etc.
