Got a free radio when purchased honda crv last year. Son works at Honda dealership and says that it's a bother to install. Too much taking off dashboard, installing antenna, etc. Why all the bother. I thought that it would be so easy, wonder why the financing company would give it away. My radio is sitting in a box collecting dust.

Honda has begun to move to a custom size format on their DIN pockets for stereos. It's more of a marketing ploy so that they have to sell you a stereo for $300+ when you can get a much better one for about $150. For many cars, you'd have to buy new brackets and even a replacement dashboard kit to fit a normal radio in. Most dealers farm out the work to a stereo shop, so if you'd be better off going direct to them for the install to avoid Honda taking their cut.
