What do people mean when they say they like a person with an "Open Mind"? What is an open mind? Does that mean, willing to try new things? Or is it more than just that? And is close minded the opposite of that?

If you're too open minded, your brain will fall out.

Yes, it does mean willing to try new things, but there's more to it than just that. Open-mindedness is a good trait to acquire. Open-minded people are non-judgmental and can see both sides of an issue; therefore, they rarely take sides. In an argument or discussion, for example, they are willing to see the other person's point of view. If their spouse or child has done something wrong, they don't immediately freak out. They take the time to assess the situation by listening and talking things out. They don't point a finger, and are not easily swayed by gossip or prejudice. Sounds almost too good to be true, doesn't it? However, an open-minded person is a treasured friend, one that you want to always keep.

Close-minded people are the opposite. They have tunnel vision and only see one side of things -- their side!

It definitely means that you aren't stubborn or narrow-minded. You have your own views, but you have considered other views too and can see where the other side is coming from. Trying new things is a part of it--it shows that you aren't afraid of change and willing to do something that someone else is really into, instead of what you think is fun.

A closed mind is basically the opposite. A close-minded person is very stubborn and is not willing to take other people's ideas into consideration. I don't think a close-minded person would try new things to appease those around them.

In my opinion, an open mind is a person who looks at both sides of the story; tries to put themselves in both sides' shoes. This, to me, is being of an open mind.
