And is it common to get blood clots after birth?

I gave birth on Dec 24th, and just today I got a blood clot that was almost the size of a golf ball!

Is this normal?

Thank you!

It is very common to have clots after birth. If you get one any bigger than the golf ball size, you should call your doctor or midwife. You would also want to call them right away if you are soaking through more than 1 pad per hour. Typically the bleeding should stop by 6 weeks postpartum. If the bleeding starts to lighten up, then comes back heavy or bright red again, it means you did too much that day and pushed your body too hard. Take it easy, put your feet up often, snuggle with your baby, and you will be back to normal in no time!

Good Luck!

It's very normal to get clots that size. If they look larger than a lime then you go to the doctor. I bled for 5 weeks after having my son, but it slowed down drastically after the first week and it was like having a period for 4 more weeks. By week five it was just a brownish discharge. Everyone is different though. But what you described is normal.

this is different for allot of women because some start there period right after and some bleed just that day it all depends on the person. Yes it is normal too , clots can come out for awhile , if you are worried though call ur obgyn and ask, but it's normal

I bled for about 5 weeks after my son was born. The nurses at the hospital told me to advise them or my doctor if I had any large clots. You might want to check with your doctor on that golf ball.

I bled for 3 weeks and had some large clots. The doctor told me that if it was larger than an egg or small lemon to call them.

That's normal, but it sounds to me like you are going to fast. Stay away from stairs and things like that. But it is the norm to bleed for six weeks. I bled that long, but my period came back right away so on 28 days I bled a little brighter. That was kind of weird. Good luck!!
