I read in the sports pages where the Rose Bowl was considered a "consolation prize"?

by the two teams playing in it this year; how can that be? What's more important in college football than the Rose Bowl?

They were just saying that because USC and Michigan would both rather be playing in the BCS championship game.

However, Pete Carroll always says that it's his first goal to make it to the Rose Bowl. It's something his team can control. The BCS is so subjective, you can't really count on it.

First of all, Rose Bowl is not the national championship being played in Glendale.

It is a consolation prize bc Michigan a month ago was arguging they should play OSU again, but they picked U of F.

USC, after OSU beat Michigan was predicted to play in OSU until they were beat by crosstown rival UCLA.

So basically, both teams at 1 time were predicted to play in the big game, but now it is just "consolation prize" Answer your question?

its a consolation game because neither of the teams deserved to be in the national title game, so they cried about it. The Rose Bowl is a great tradition and Michigan and USC blatantly killed the rose bowl by treating it as a consolation game. In reality, USC had two losses and Michigan got demolished by USC so they were actually in the right bowl.

That idea was pushed by the people who were thinking Michigan somehow belonged in the title game. USC destroyed that myth pretty handily yesterday.
