It's all so silly. What I want to know is, what would you call a white person born in Africa if he came to the US and became a citizen? He would really be an African American, only problem is that he is white. And if "African American" is used by Americans to denote blacks, what would you call a black African in Africa? An African American African?

A black person born in America is NOT African, so how can he be called and "African American"?

I think the whole thing is just too preposterous for words, and I'm a White Anglo-Saxon American whatchamacallit.

Lets not generalise an entire continent, shall we?

I think that some Africans might have ambivalent emotions towards those African Americans who claim they are African.

I have an African American friend, and she keeps on yapping how African she is, abnout going back to her home country, etc. It takes more than skin colour to be African (I do not mean this in a nasty way!). My ancestors came from Slovakia, but that does not mean I am a Slovak.

Let me take a guess here. Africans know who they are, and define themselves as Africans and especially as, let's say, Nigerians. Black American (men) feel like their living in a white man's world, and can't feel the power of determining their own destiny. Their is a lack of tension in the African male that I have noticed - no chip on their shoulder. How all this will ever be resolved escapes me. I'm an ordinary white woman and can only observe.

Why do people still say African-American, haven't you been here long enough, you can seriously be just American now. Getting to the question, maybe people calling themselves African-Americans when they have never set foot in Africa, maybe that's the start of your answer.

you comprehend, i've got continuously asked myself the comparable query. the certainty that somebody is black does not quickly cause them to African or American- what approximately Haitian human beings? What approximately black Europeans? i think of that merely the be conscious "black" could be adequate; it truly is in easy terms a actual description. If we initiate off treating it as such human beings would stop seeing pores and skin shade as a manner of existence, that's ridiculous, and extremely like asserting that each and every person those with blue eyes or large ft are the comparable- the only element each and every physique of one pores and skin shade have in uncomplicated is that pores and skin shade.

Because most black people in the US are not from Africa and Africans think that American blacks are lazy and loud and they don't like that.

not really cuz i'm of nigerian descent and my family kind of stereotype African- Americans as being lazy and kind of stupid. they also think they are nmostly fat people who will never suceed in life because they blame the white man for there problems and for their poverty. But i believe there is no such thing as African American just people who are from africa but don't know what part. so i think u should researsh your history so next time if someone asks u your descent u can say Ghanha or Niger or Nigeria exct. okay

Because 9 times out of ten they are right in that assumption. It's not so much that we don't like them as people, we have the problem with their thinking, rudeness, and drive to argue.
