My son is in Iraq and says not much has changed. Shiites, Sunnies, and Kurds alike all celebrated Saddams death. But then surprise they all hate each other as well.
Here's an article of the about the climate there now. http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=inDepthNews&storyID=2007-01-02T003351Z_01_PAR151828_RTRUKOC_0_US-IRAQ-SADDAM-HISTORY.xml&pageNumber=2&imageid=&cap=&sz=13&WTModLoc=NewsArt-C1-ArticlePage4

We can't really tell for sure. I think it would always depend on the leader that Iraq would have in the future. It is very important for him to have a proper strategy on how to control people who would go against him (pro-Saddams, for example) without making the same mistake his predecessor committed, which was to resort to violence and dictatorship.

For now, just ending the regime of Saddam is good enough. Had it not been put to an end, his 14-year old grandson, who was being groomed then, will soon take over. I am not saying that I approve of the manner that he was killed (or of the fact that he was killed), but just considering the environment that the young boy had been brought up in, it is pretty predictable that should he be leading, the country would still continue to live in fear.

In the meantine, I think Iraq would have to undergo a really long process of re-organization.

The Sunnies are upset not so much by the execution itself, but by the way it was carried out. They'll continue the violence against the Shiites and the Shiites in turn will retaliate. Yes, it'll get worse and we need to get our troops out from the middle of that mess..

I agree with Debra 100%. This execution was all about Bush, and the violence will just get worse. Seriously how could it get better? I guess missions accomplished eh George? Oops, maybe not.

He replaced into not made right into a martyr. He died like a coward and the international is greater efficient now that a genocidal dictator replaced into added to justice Hell, the UN ignored Saddam, they ignored Rwanda, they ignored Bosnia, they ignored Herzegovina, and that they are presently ignoring Darfur. the U. S. has executed good issues in turning this mad guy over to the Iraqis so as that they might carry him to justice

A little too soon to tell. If you're asking if the execution was worth the trouble we are currently in to carry out that execution, then the answer is no.

Better. The liberal media had to show real tight shots of Protests because there were only like 20 guys .Now the Iraqi's who were on the fence will know Saddam will not be back. Now they will take their new government more seriously. The media is so screwed up. I would investigate them and bring up liars on charges of treason and espionage

Worse. It'll only make extremists more enraged towards the USA soldiers and their current government. He was already completely out of power, so he had no influence on Iraq, executed him will just inflame the tension.
