She eats 4-5 jars of baby food a day plus two 8 oz. bottles of formula. I'm trying to ween her from formula...What and how should I do this?

Replace the formula with whole milk. But gradually! Maybe make one of the eight oz bottles a 4 oz bottle of formula and then give 4 oz of whole milk awhile later. And keep the formula bottle before bed for the next week. I know your anxious to save money on formula, but just dont be too hasty.

16 oz of formula for an 11 month old is pretty much a minimum. To wean her off of the formula, you need to substitute something else... either a toddler formula or milk. She should be on formula until one year of age, and up to 32 oz is not unusual during a 24hr period.

I'm assuming you're giving her cereal as well... and finger foods... but only just gradually begin to offer something like Advance formula for toddlers instead of her normal formula. About 24 to 26 oz is normal for each day.

At about age 15 to 18 months begin weaning to whole milk... and by age two begin 2% milk with the approval of your child's pediatrician.

Actually, this advice will come best from your child's physician as each child is different and her weight/height ratio will indicate to her doctor what is the best path to take for her best health.

Best to you....

Not till one year. Weaning is not necessary in my experience, you can switch cold turkey on the first birthday to whole milk, unless you have a particulary finicky baby. A baby at that age should still be having at least 20 oz. or more of formula a day. Mine gets that with a half cup with each meal, a full sippy cup of formula in the afternoon, and a small bottle before bed. Also if you m ake your baby's cereal with formula, that counts.

According to my pediatrition a 10-12 month baby should be getting 16-24 ounces of formula a day.. so 2 8 ounce bottle with as much baby food she is eating sounds right on track to me.

She should definetly be drinking more milk a minimum of 24 ounces a day if she wont drink that then I think she might be eating too many solids.

As for weaning her I would start slowly adding cows milk so her body can get used to it. And eventually in 1 month she wont need any formula in the bottle.

Feeding babies really is not so hard. Mothers often get desperate b/c of so many different opinions on feeding baby. But remember that the human body has not changed in thousands of years and it still requires the same thing the Maker designed, no matter what the "new" recommendations are. So, listen to everyone, but go and make up your own mind. You are a smart mother.
Dr. Leila Denmark (who is about to turn 109 years old in Feb.) recommends that babies can be weaned from formula (b/c the human body no longer needs milk (dairy) past the lactation period) past 8 months of age. She also recommends that that baby be fed only pureed foods b/c they have no back teeth to chew "finger foods" with and thus upsetting the digestive system. Also, another popular and overlooked need of the human body is the need for protein at each meal. That means at breakfast your baby can have 1 whole egg yolk (not egg whites yet) along with 2 Tablespoons of rice cereal, 2 T. of applesauce, and 1 whole banana. Mix this all together (which tastes rather sweet with the ban. and apple) and your baby will be so satisfied till lunch as well as thrive, be healthy and completely happy. She also taught us to offer baby only water and it can be given in a sippy cup. It is the only true hydration that the body needs. Then at lunch and supper mix and warm 2 T. of pureed meat, 2T. of rice cereal, 1 whole banana, 2 T. of applesauce and 2 T. of vegetables. Again, this is a complete healthy diet that covers all the bases of vitamins. Our babies have always been extremely well fed, happy and completely healthy. I mean, who wouldn't want to follow a diet that you let you live to be 109? LOL God Bless. Enjoy your baby and remember to always think for yourself.

have u talked to the dr about giving her cow or soy milk? and does she eat table food yet?

If the dr says that it is ok, i would start trying maybe just at meal time.. then a bottle of formula at night before she sleeps, just tell her body gets used to the milk.

Also, if u want to start weening her off the bottle, this is a perfect time to start using a sippy cup..... :)

good luck!

About 20-24oz a day, wait for her to turn a year then start mixing bottles 1/2 milk 1/2 formula for a week or so then go to mostly milk less formula for another week then just regular milk, if you do it this way there is a lesser chance of them having diarrhea.

Talk to your pediatrician. I'd hate to say something contrary to medical advice, but I think she can start a sippy cup pretty soon. Make sure she is eating a wide variety of foods so she gets all her vitamins because the formula is fortified.
