Don't get me wrong,I am no angel but I have studied for many years and I have learned the truth. Most of the time I'll speak to a person, and just by listening to that persons accent,I can tell that that person comes from a Spanish speaking country, either it be certain areas in the USA like New York,Los Angeles,South America or any other country. Each time I ask the person what is your ethnicity/race? All I get is Spanish, sometimes Latino, rarely Hispanic,or some other national origin, but most of the time it's
Spanish.Just by looking at these peoples features I can instantly tell that these people have mixed features. For example most Cubans and Dominicans and some Puerto Ricans and Colombians are are a race of Mulattos, mean while most people who come from various other places in Latin America like Mexico,
Guatemala,El Salvador,Panama est are Mestizo.Only places like Costa Rica,Argentina,Uruguay, and Spain is where real Spaniards come from.Where did these people get the idea they r Spanish?

I am of hispanic descent; my father came here from Nicaragua after the revolution. I don't even speak spanish, but I am proud of my hispanic heritage, and I love the hispanic culture. It's just part of me, whether or not it really shows, (most people think I am mixed white and black), and I am seriously trying to learn spanish soon so I can finally figure out what my cousins are saying!

Hispanic is a term invented here in the states to denote U.S.born people of spanish descent, but from Mexico to Argentina it is called Latin America so if a person comes from any of those countries he/she is a latino/a. I prefer to call myself latina rather than spanish but this is permited too as not all latinos speak spanish. i.e.Brazilians.

I've been married to 2 mexicans, and have been around hispanics for more than 25 yrs. They prefer latino. If you ask a mexican his ethnicity, he will say I'm mexican. Never heard a hispanic or latino call themselves "spanish.

I'm Hispanic and have never called myself Spanish. I either say i'm hispanic or that i'm from el salvador! But yeah my ancestors on my moms side have indian blood and my dads side are spanish. many of the people in these countries were children of rape by the spanish. So when you really think about it some of us have that spanish blood in us.

Don't you remember that whole Christopher Columbus thing? When conquerors conquer, the losers always learn how to be like the winners. Its common sense. It doesn't have anything to do with what country they are from, what they look like or any of that other crap. People have a right to call themselves whatever they want, and they know themselves to be Spanish, because that is the home language that they speak. That should be enough.

I've never heard of Hispanics referring to themselves as Spanish.
Usually, it's white people who think "spanish" is the polite way of saying Mexican-as if it were a dirty word.

You may be mistaken in assuming that you know, by looking, where someone comes from.

I dont know why they do, but they should know that they are not able to save anyone, unless God the Father draws that person and reveals Himself to that person through Christ Jesus our Lord. So I have no idea why they stand on street corners or go from door to door to make converts. Wouldnt the Holy Spirit within one's heart know true religion from false religion?

It is a sort of shame. A shame at being Hispanic a sort of way of denying the Truth. They are trying to pass off as white which is more accepted. They know they are mixed but they deny one race and choose the other.
