1. New York - was founded by the dutch as New Amsterdam. Names like Brooklyn (Breukelen), Harlem (Haarlem), etc. still remember those times. Than we bartered it for Surinam.

2. Saved NorthWest Airlines from bankruptcy a couple of times. Maybe we shouldn't have done that.

3. Farmers - a large percentage of the farmers in the US have Dutch roots.

4. Flowers - a lot of the flowers in the shops in the US are flown in every morning from Aalsmeer, the Netherlands.

Oops - that's 4 - can go on for a bit longer...

(1) The Pilgrims - other Dutch also settled much of the northeast in the 1600's and a lot of cities with Dutch names remain.

(2) The Dutch were the first to recognize the United States - On 11/16/1776 Dutch forces on the Caribbean island of St. Eustatius returned the salute of the American brig-of-war "Andrew Doria," thereby making the Netherlands the first country to officially salute the flag of the newly-independent United States.

(3) Also the first country in the world to recognize formal diplomatic relations with the U.S. in 1782 (the Netherlands can boast the world's longest record of continuous friendly relations with the US).
