UPS is the uninterruptible Power supply its like an external power supply that protects it from power surges, either the UPS has gone bad or you have to reinstall the UPS application cd and make sure that youre using the usb port to connect it

A UPS isn't in your computer. A UPS is an uninterruptable power supply, basically a battery backup for your computer. This device is quite useful if your power fails while your computer is running it allows you time to correctly shut down your computer, and some UPS's will actually shut your computer off for you after a set period of time. Depending on the UPS some will run your computer from 5 minutes to an hour or more. What your cousin is describing is the main power supply in the computer. A power supply can cost anywhere from $40 to a few hundred dollars depending on your system. If you have further questions email me at wsevier@yahoo.com

Uninterruptable Power Supply. It keeps power to your computer when the wall power fails. People have them so they don't lose important work, and can save things.
