If you mean Science Fiction or fantasy programs,......In addition to The Prisoner, try the "Dcotor Who" series, although it is intended for a juvenile audience, and was done on a limited BBC budget for sets and special effects.
Oh sure, the "Avengers" was a real cult classic. But not to be taken seriously. Way over the top with the comic-book violence (or lack of it). And,.....let's face it, gang.....Emma Peel's constumes were just kinky as only the Brits can be kinky !
Well, not as serious a series as "The Prisoner", which was a surprising success in this country in the 60's from ITV in Britain, but the cult BBC comedy SF series "Red Dwarf" is a real laugh. It turns the science fiction genre on its head to make it funny. It was shown in the last few years on SOME but not all PBS stations in the US. If you don't live near a major TV market, you could have missed it. I think there are 8 seasons (BBC calls them "series") currently on video and DVD. Outrageously funny, with just a slight bent feeling.
Speaking of SF and Britain, you DID see the OLD BBC TV series from the 60's "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", didn't you? If not, it is available on VHS and TV. The feature film adaptation last year, however, was a disappointment .
If you like espionage stories and double-dealing in intelligence agencies, try the serious British series, "The Sandbaggers". It was about three series (about 20 episodes), and was one of the most intelligently-written spy series ever written. As somebody said: "...an intelligent man's James Bond adventure series". Cerebral or not, it is one of the best-written shows, with plenty of twists and turns, and occasionally completely unpredictable. Outstanding.
Best wishes,
JohnB.

I cant believe that no one mentioned "Space 1999" . Which ran from 1975 to 1977 and starred Martin Landau. It was produced by the man behind the Thunderbirds Gerry Anderson.
If I remember correctly it was about a colony on a moon base and the moon is somehow sent out of orbit and each episodes centers around the different aliens and problems they encounter as they try and return to earth.
As you would expect from Gerry Anderson the special effects in particular the miniature buildings and spaceships were excellent for the time or at least i taught so back then when i was 7.

Personally, I think the best "Outer Limits" episodes were better than anything ever done on "The Twilight Zone". The good 1960s Outer Limits had an eerie film noir feel that no TV show has ever duplicated. Despite that, TZ marathons are shown on a regular status, and it's been years since the last broadcast of a show from the original Outer Limits.
It'd be nice if The Scifi Channel mixed it up once in awhile and had a marathon of old "Outer Limits" episodes. Or, heck, even some other old show would be welcome, like, for example, "The Prisoner". If you ask me, these Twilght Zone marathons are gettin' old.

I always loved The Avengers, definitely the Emma Peal run. You can buy the whole set on Amazon. And I still love the first few seasons of Mission: Impossible. The original Twilight Zones and Outer Limits? I guess it depends on what you would define as "cult."

Do you mean, "The Prisoner" with Patrick McGoohan? I didn't know anyone else on the face of the Earth had ever watched it! You brought back some really exiting memories. Now, where can I get the series on DVD?
