My husband died very suddenly in March 2006. The time has gone so fast and I am looking for ideas on how/what we can do to celebrate/remember him on that awful day.
I have 3 young kids and I want this to be a good day for them.

Have a pleasant day with the kids. Do something your husband enjoyed doing with them - perhaps a visit to the zoo, playground, out to lunch, and visit the cemetary with flowers and baloons. Make it a happy day for the children so they will remember him in happy ways. I am sorry for your loss and this time of year must have been very sad for you. I hope 2007 brings you new happiness.

Well, for the kids maybe you can institute a ritual, some outing in which you talk about how much Dad would have loved to be with you and that each of you are carrying him in your hearts, and at the end of the day/outing, stop by his grave and each person takes a turn telling him a happy story and sharing a happy memory. It's tough w/the young ones, you must be a really strong woman.

To remember him on the day he died, I would do something that day with the kids in honor of him. Something he loved doing or seeing. For example, if he enjoyed skiing, take the kids skiing for the day. Something he loved to do that will remind the kids of their father while they are doing it. Sorry for your loss...

Try planting a redwood tree and putting a plaque with his name on it. Redwoods live for hundreds of years. You could go back to it every year and share a memory you had with with your husband and they can talk about their daddy.
