Solve this just like you would a regular equation with an "equals" sign instead of a "greater than" sign.

You can rewrite the equation so the variables will be on the left side, like so...

6x - 5 > 12x + 1

becomes ---->

12x + 1 < 6x - 5

Now, move the variables on the left side of the equation:
12x + 1 < 6x - 5
12x - 6x + 1 < -5

Now, move the constants to the right side of the equation:
12x - 6x < -5 - 1

Combine like terms and solve:
6x < - 6
x < - 1

Good luck in your studies.

Hi,

For 6x-5>12x +1, subtract 6x on both sides.
6x-5-6x>12x +1 - 6x This simplifies to:
-5 > 6x + 1 Now subtract 1 on each side.
-5 - 1> 6x + 1 - 1 Simplify this to get:
- 6 > 6x Now divide by 6 on both sides.
- 6/6 > 6x/6 This gives -1 > x. If -1 is greater than x, then that means that x is less than -1, so your answer is x < -1. That means any numbers less than -1 like x = -2, x = -3, etc. would make this inequality true, but numbers greater than or equal to -1 do not make the inequality true.

I hope that helps.

Hey you need to solve for x right?

-So you need to put all numbers with x on the left and all numbers with no x on the right:

6x - 12x > 1 + 5

-Now we simplify on both sides:

6x - 12x becomes -6x
and 1+5 becomes 6

so it is now -6x > 6

-to get rid of the negative in front of the x we swap all signs for their oppossite ones and change the greater than sign to a smaller than sign so:

6x < -6

-now we need to get x on its own so we divide both sides by the number in front of x ie: 6

therefore x < -1

Put all together it looks like this:

6x - 5 > 12x + 1

6x - 12x > 1 + 5

-6x > 6

6x < -6

divide by six therefore

x < -1

get the x's on one sid so i would suggest subtract 6x from both sider so u r left with ..... -5>6x+1...then subtract one from both sides so you have -6>6x.....then divide both sides by 6 and ur left with -1>x
