I used to enjoy both the books and movies immensely. However, I had trouble getting through the fifth book (it's so long, there's too much shouting, the character I hate most of all is introduced and gets too much "screentime" for her own good, there are too many dull moments, the overall plot seemed like a thinly-veiled political statment, and a character I really like was killed off in the stupidest fashion). I gave the sixth book a whirl, but it was much worse (the romances and characterizations sucked, and there's nothing else about the book that could overcome that- frankly the whole thing read like a bad fanfiction story). I have no interest in seeing the fifth or sixth books on film- I hated the books themselves that much.
I still like to read the better fanfiction stories though- and watch the DVDs of the first four movies as well as play the video games. The books, however- even the first four, are just collecting dust on my shelf. And I'm not betting on the seventh book being any improvement over the last two, given Rowling's current track record.

OMG! I can't understand how that is possible. But, I guess that it's different for everyone. At least you like the movies! You can try to read Harry Potter one chapter at a time during the day or something. That might work. I know what you mean when you said that the books bored you (not the Harry potter books. That I can't understand). I felt the same when I read the first 200 pages of The Lord of the Ring.

Well, I'm a huge, and by huge I mean HUGE, fan of Harry Potter. I love both the books and movies. I know a lot of people that love the movies but hate the books. But, the thing is that they don't like to read or just can't comprehend the books. My mom likes the movies, but she doesn't get the plot at all. She's constantly asking me questions and saying things like "Hermione and Harry should get together, not Ron and Hermione". But, you are missing out on a great book series. I'm only twelve and I know things about Harry Potter that others don't even understand. By the way, my fave book is the Goblet of Fire. It's also my fave movie!

Ok this is the #1 tip for reading harry potter. Watch the first movie then start reading the books starting with two. This sometimes works because the first harry potter book is the driest of them all there really is no comparison to reading the books (the last few movies really cut parts out) so try this.

Im not tired of Harry Potter, yet but then again I dont have kids that talk about it all day or anything. I watch at least one of the movies every week and am reading the books now. Can't wait for the new ones to come out.

Harry Potter books are a lot like the traditional juvenile/young adult "boys' space stories," except that these are "boys' wizard stories." I liked space stories as a kid, and I like Harry Potter now... but I completely understand that the writing style won't suit everyone.
The storyline's got some plot holes, the details sometimes contradict each other, and the tone is "Gee Whiz! Magic!!!" all the way through. Even the "darker" sections are a bit lacking in depth--and make for the majority of the odd plot and concept gaps in the stories.
You're certainly not required to like a series just because it's popular.

Gosh, I read them all last year in the forth grade and took a quiz on them and only missed one out of 90 questions! How could they be boring if a 10 year old could read them all in 1 1/2 months?? I'm looking forward to reading the last Harry Potter book this July. But, everyone has their own opinions, so I don't have a say in what other people think. I'm sorry if I made you mad, but it's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I personally like them, but that's because I read alot. My friend on the other hand she can't stand the books. The genre doesn't interest her and having the book being so large isn't much of a help either. Some people just don't like the book. I haven't met alot, but it is normal for people to not like some books just for the fact that they bore them.
