I know we have had Will & Grace, but this show would be a step further. The show would center around a married gay couple raising one or more adopted children as their own. The other characters would for the most part treat their situation as completely normal with the exception of a few bigots who do not approve of the situation. This show would be groundbreaking in that it would be the first show in which a gay couple is married and living in a committed relationship. (Correct me if I'm wrong). Yes, this show would be controversial, but think of all of the other controversial shows that have been on tv, some of them wouldn't even be able to air today. (e.g. All In The Family). I think it is about time we showed America that it is possible for two men or women to be in a committed, loving relationship and have the ability to raise normal, happy, and healthy children. It is time.

I think it's a great idea! That said though, I don't think it should centre around the bigotry 100% of the time. You can certainly touch on that every once in a while, say, a couple of times a season. If one of the kids are in their teens, you can have episodes that centre around that (eg. Teen daughter starts a GSA, teen son asks his two dads about sex, one kid may be bi, etc). If the kids are younger, you can have an episode about the two dads/moms going to a parent-teacher meeting or choosing where their kids will go to school and not be harassed too much. there's a plethora of topics you can cover. Yes, bigotry is a part of it, but it would be good to show that same-sex parents go through the same things heterosexual parents do as well. just some suggestions. :)

There was a show like this: it was called Queer as Folk and ran on Showtime. The last two seasons had a happily married (in Canada) gay couple with a biological baby girl -- one of the guys (Michael) fathered his daughter via artificial insemination with a lesbian friend. Michael and his husband had also adopted a runaway boy who had been abused by his mom.
Sadly, the first show that you describe will probably first run in the UK where gay marriage is a fact, just as the original QAF began. It won't hit our shores until maybe five years from now, two if it's on cable. Commercial TV refuses to touch the subject in a mature (as in intelligent) way.
Btw, I hated Will & Grace: offensive junk for the masses.

Good idea! Did you know that this has happened before? Not with gays but black rights. The Bill Cosby show was used to promote civil rights. I doubt that was the main purpose in the show but it was one of them. Another good episode would be one where one of the dad's is busy and the other dad takes the kids to a local church. They treat them nice at the church but when they return the next sunday with both dads, they are treated horribly. This will point out to america how gays are treating in some churches.

That sounds awesome! I would definitely tune in every day to watch it and I'm not really one to even get addicted to TV series. That's a really good idea though, hopefully there's a way to get this idea heard more broadly. Right on.

Sure a show based around gay characters would be great. But unlike Will and Grace, it should be funny.

I completely agree! It would be a great show and would show people that gays and lesbians are really just average people living normal lives. Good idea! ;)

Only if they do a realistic one.
If it's going to be just another bunch of stereotypes and lame BS I wish they wouldn't do another one.

I agree. Something we can see on basic cable or regular TV so you don't have to pay through the nose to watch it.
