Why can't I drag and drop music to iPod / iTunes?

I have iTunes 7 and a 1st gen iPod with the latest software. I'm having trouble with certain files. They will play in Windows Media Player. What gives?

When u download ur iTunes to a computer, that is the one computer it stays on.
like, what im saying is u cannot go to a friends house and take their music.
Sure, u can listen to it, but u cant like take it.
like when i switched from a shuffle to a video, i had to completely delete my original ITunes.
i had no longer used the same songs for my shuffle.
