What reacts more readily with HCl...is it Ag (silver) or Mg (magnesium)

Mg magnesium. Silver does not react, unless in the presence of HNO3 (aqua regia), because Ag is below H+ in the electromotive series. Mg is above.

Yes, magnesium will react readily in HCl. Silver is much less reactive in acid.

To clarify, someone previously mentioned HNO3 as "aqua regia"; that is partially correct. Aqua Regia is actually a mixture of HNO3 (nitric acid) and hydrochloric acid in a 1:3 ratio of nitric to hydrochloric. It is the only mixture that will dissolve GOLD. It will likely dissolve silver also.

Magnesium is more active than Ag. Actually Ag rarely reacts with any acid.
