I had a LEEP procedure done in April, and became pregnant in August.... my doctor said that you should wait a year after the procedure... and now i need to see a specialist.. so my question is does anyone know how often this causes complications in oregnancy- and what are the complications?

I have had two successful pregnancies after a Leep procedure. But I didn't get pregnant until about 4 years later. I would say the biggest complication would be an incompetent cervix. There is a procedure that they do to sew your cervix shut like a purse string. Then when the time comes closer to deliver they cut the stitch so your cervix doesn't tear when you go into labor. Other than that I don't know what complications there could be.

I had a LEEP done about 2 years ago and am now pregnant for the first time (13 weeks). I am seeing a specialist in addition to my OB because of the higher risk for an incompetent cervix. I am being watched closely to see if my cervix starts opening (in which case they would do a cerclage - stitch my cervix closed). My specialist told me that every woman has a 5-10% chance of having a preterm baby and that someone who has had a LEEP done has a 15-20% chance of a preterm baby. He also reminded me that it's a 80-85% chance that I WON'T have a preterm baby. Seeing a specialist is a good precaution. Good luck!

I had a LEEP less then a year ago and I am 17 weeks preg. Everyone is differnt so your risk is differnt, it all depends on how much the doctor scrapped off ur cervix.. they should be able to tell you. I asked my doctor because i was very concerned and she said she only took off a little off the first layer but your doctor may have had to take off more, just talk to them. but the only complication u could have would be your cervix being too weak but thats why u see the spacialist, they measure your cervix and if they see anything like weakening they can simply sow up the weak area so it cant creat a hole or anything, but just talk to your doctor to find out YOUR condition and the spicalist are there to make sure everythings good and healthy. best of luck to you, and dont stress, theres lots of women out there who had a LEEP and then a pregnancy within a year and head very heathy babies.

And atleast now you can see your baby alot more :) and theyll help you find out the sex b4 your reg dotor can!

A LEEP procedure weakens the cervix which COULD make your uterus incompetent of carrying the pregnancy to full-term. VERY rarely it can cause stenosis (narrowing of the cervix) which would require a C-section for delivery.
Many woman experience no complications :-)
