According to one study of gay males: 11% of gay males are in a committed monogamous relationship. 33% of gay males are in a non-committed open relationship. 56% of gay males are not in any relationship.
This is partly caused by the wandering eye of all males, straight and gay, and partly because society, up to now, has so strongly discouraged male couples, and partly because of the esteem problem gays have.
However, the current laws also discriminate against lesbians who are on average much more interested in long term relationships.
There are several U.S. studies which claim that more than 60% of the gay/lesbian community are in a relationship.
We have no desire for churches to be forced to perform marriage ceremonies for gays. We are not demanding churches welcome us to their services. We are not asking for any special benefit not already bestowed on straight couples. We are not asking for any special rights. We just want to be treated equally. It is a simple matter of gender equality.
Gays are tired of being sent to the back of the metaphorical bus, being forced to kowtow to straights as if they were morally superior. We want the Christians to acknowledge their bigotry against gays is not a universal truth, but merely a tenet of sectarian faith.
Now, if you want to excuse me, I am still laughing at dba_gregg's answer; his "If gay are allowed to marry, I will have to divorce my wife and marry a goat" is another example of pure stupidity. And because gay marriage is going to happen whether you like it or not , you better go start selecting your goat.

It doesn't. And I don't see why people associated gay marriage with beastiality. How does marrying another human being equal marrying a goat? I don't get it... And pedophilia is a felony, homosexuality is not and should never be. Homosexuals feel the same way about their partners as heterosexuals do. Now I am by no means trying to push my views on others (at least I hope I'm not and if it seems that way, I'm sorry), but love doesn't know the difference between black/white, m/m, f/f like society does. Perhaps some societies aren't ready for it and that's okay for them but this country with it's severe diversity can't really afford to stay that ignorant. The love between two people should always be promoted within reason. And when I say 'within reason', I mean that it should be between two consenting adults. (For those of you who are going to say something about, "it's okay for a 40 year old to have relations with a 6 year old?" don't!). For diseases, that will be spread whether you are straight or gay. And as for no procreation, no one is saying that once gays are allowed to marry then everyone will turn gay and stop making babies, it just means that a certain group of people will be able to further tighten their bond of love with ceremony that should last a lifetime. What about couples who don't want children? Should they not be allowed to marry? Or women who've aborted their embryos? Should they not be allowed to marry because they chose to go against what their natural bodies had in store?
Not everyone has the Christian way in mind. As long as you aren't outright defying societal laws and just being a horrible person in general, then what's wrong? Homosexuals put their pants on the same way heterosexuals do. One leg at a time. And if people cared so much about divine nature, then they wouldn't look down on women and ignore the cries of the environment. Also, religions that focus on the forces of nature would probably be more popular if misconceptions were cleared up. BUT! Everything takes time. One day, we'll all look at each other the same way.

I've always wondered that myself. Two people of the same gender having a relationship or marrying each other has no effect on my life. For the religious zealots: There is no law, that I'm aware of, that says we have to follow a certain religion or set of beliefs. Some of these people must be so bored and discontented with their own lives that they have to stick their noses in other people's business. It is absolutely arrogant for these people to think they're some high moral authority that they can dictate how others should run their lives. They wouldn't like it if someone snorted in on their business and told them what they were doing was wrong. To the person who said DISEASES: thank you for enlightening and informing me. I was under this big delusion that STD's can be spread also by heterosexual sex. Silly me. I'm glad we have geniuses like this to educate us. As for procreation: I guess we need to pass a law that post-menopausal women or anyone who is unable to have children cannot marry (or they must divorce once the women goes through menopause). Oh, the brainpower of some of these people never ceases to amaze me.

It doesn't harm anyone or society.
Not one argument by any other answer participant holds one sound bit of reason or actual logic that answers this question.
Religious reasons should be restricted to those that follow that religion(and sect), the pedophile supposition is wrong especially considering upward of 85% of all cases of pedophilia are committed by heterosexual males, bestiality is a straw-man argument as animals cannot legally consent to sex much less sign a legal contract, and last but certainly not least the argument that children will think it's OK I find especially amusing simply because that reason has not impacted the number of divorces or reduced the amount of violence on television one iota yet you are worried that kids will think that marrying someone you love even if they are the same sex is right so it shouldn't be allowed? Get a life.

A relationship regardelss of gendar and gendar choice is a personal choice and should not have any effect on society. It does becaus of narrow minnded homophobic people. if you are homophobic and a openly homosexual work with you or at your childs school you act out. As a child I myself(appologetically now) was very mean to a man when I was in 4th grade and didn't want his help and my excuse was he had boyfriends.... I was a child and my peers (mostly young boys) thought it was weird he had a bf. This was in Berkeley california an your sexualy preference dosne't effect your job. I had openly gay female neighbors and relatives and friends i considered relatives and they showed me that their wasn't anything mean or weird about him he wa just a teacher's aide at my school if he flirted with my male friends that would be alarming because we were little children.
Two adults is the key statement of you question. Adults can do whatever in their home and bedroom. in public you might leav an impression on a child and their parents might not be as openminded as mine and it could lead to hate crimes or worse.
the realtionship doesn't harm anyone................
the mis-interpretation of their relationship is what is harmful to everyone!!!!!

Relationship between two adults of the same sex is not a crime and it does not cause anyone else ANY harm.
It has been legitimised in most of Europe, North America, Latin America, South Africa and several other countries in Africa.
The prejudice remains enshrined in law mainly in the countries that were under British colonial rule, (even though the UK itself has moved on), and in many Islamic countries.
Same-sex marriages doesn't do one bit of harm to anyone, while disallowing them does harm the people who wish to enter into those marriages. It hurts them economically and socially.
There are 1400 rights and privileges that go with legal marriage, which most of us take for granted. And that's all in addition to the stigma of being in a same-sex relationship in the first place, a prejudice that is shrinking but not yet gone.
To allow gay marriages, is simply to allow all adults to fully enter into the long-term relationship of their choice. No one is asking anyone else to change their religion but to allow others the same rights and benefits that they themselves expect.
1diputs, you can hump your brother as much as you want, I could not care less, nobody here does, really.

Actually, Kevin, it doesn't harm society or anyone. That is unless you count the fact that it forces others to reexamine their preconceived views and biases and the likelihood that most people are not ready to do that. In other words it upsets the applecart. And we all know how important it is to have a tidy applecart, don't we?

It doesn't! You know it really ticks me off that people all around the world say "well in the bible it says" yeah yeah yeah. In the bible it says homosexuality is an abomination to God. Well gee, God supposedly put us here, and you are born gay trust me, then why didn't he just stop you at birth? Do you see what I'm saying? God made us, but some are born gay...hello people obviously God doesn't really give a hoot anymore, cause if he did, half of the people on this Earth would be gone...get a clue all you people who are against gays. Grow Up!!

i dont feel it harms anyone or society..I mean many people throw christianity into the situation but i feel God does not hate people who are homosexual..Keep in mind god directed what was pose to written in the Bible..and man written it..The translations of the original text are not even close to accurate..we as a society tend to adapt to things which have been accustomed in our culture because we are afraid of chandge,denial..etc. The Bible was written to many years ago..everything we can not realy live up to..So if thats the case, if we lived by exactly what the Bible says then there would be no divorce, adultures would be stoned to death..etc.
Our society is a big flaw..i am a christian myself but i hate when they throw the Bible to everything.. I feel if you are going to be gay thats fine..as long as God knows your heart and you talk to him then that between him and you

Of course it doesn't harm society - unless - one of the two people involved has an STD, he/she didn't honestly reveal that to their partner, and they have unsafe sex.
That's just evil, and it happens all the time.
Otherwise, what do I care what two adults of the same sex do in the privacy of their own place? They aint offending me any.
