The easy answer is to make them responsible and let them suffer the consequences of wearing dirty clothes.

But hello!!! parenting is never easy and you would never want your kids to wear dirty clothes (even if they don't care). You must bring this to their attention. Explain to them why they can't wear dirty clothes and why you aren't their maid. Warn them once if they forget. Then punish them if they continue to do it. Also try to be proactive and check their rooms as much as possible or if you notice clothes not getting to the laundry.

Also try to praise and highlight their actions when they do what you ask. Reward them with small treats (cupcakes for dessert some night, extra hour of video games, a trip to the park) if they remember for a whole week or month in a row.

Do not let this continue!

make them wear the dirty clothes and say that they have to learn. take away a little mula from them for each peice of clothing. Make a white basket for clean and a black/brown basket for dirty and label them. If they still don't care or whatever give them a long boring lecture everyonce in a while so they won't want the lecture. This is a good idea: get there clean clothes and dirty ones and mix it together and put nast stuf on the clothes like eggs, milk, coffee, lipstick, grass stains and then tell them that they have to wear them to school because YOU put the clean clothing into the dirty clothing because you forgot. Just like they did. They will soon realize that this is not funny anymore so they will not do it. Please give me 10 points 0:-)

Maybe try keeping the basket for dirty clothes in a place that is more convenient. Like in their room next to a dresser or something. Also, maybe you can do some positive reinforcement with them, rewarding them for remembering to put the clothes in the wash basket (or, for not being lazy and just putting dirty clothes in with the clean). By the way, are the clean clothes kept in a more accessible place than the dirty's? I would definately make the dirty basket more accessible than the clean clothes. Good luck!!

the clean clothes should be in a closet or in dresser drawers. Only the dirty clothes should be put in a basket.

Like anything else where they don't do what you tell them. Take away their favorite thing to do each time there is even one piece of dirty clothes in with the clean ones. Then when they go one week the way you tell them, give the privilege back to them. Remember, you are the parent, they are they child.

After they do their own laundry (with help if they are very young) a few time they will learn that it is a waste of time to keep washing clean stuff. They will want to be doing other things, however make them sit thru the process a few times. And althought it runs up the cost make each kids do their own by themselfs without doing the other kids stuff.

short answer...they have a basket but don't use it? Nothing gets washed or picked up by you that is not in that basket. When they want clean clothes... teach them how to do the laundry.

You don't say how old they are or if you use a laundromat or have laundry facilities at home. I had step kids that were being little oinkers, so I made them come with me to the laundromat. I got them their own washer ands made them move and dry the clothes. Then they got to fold them and put them away and they were a lot more appreciative and tidy after that.
