Italy is gorgeous. The cities you listed are very nice. The country is nice but there are sooooooooo many pick pockets and such-especially in Rome. France was traveling worry free for me. Italy was difficult mainly because you had to be careful of the neighborhoods and such. Shops in Italy often increased postcard, soda, beer, food, etc. prices for non Italian speaking tourists too. That was sad to see since I am fluent in Italian. The food portions were small for the prices paid in Italy too. I am fluent in French too but the French were fine-really nice and it was very safe in the areas I visited. I would suggest France if you have not been to Europe before and want a safe/easy vacation. I would choose Italy if you will be traveling with a tour group with the food costs and such prepaid.
Bon voyage!
Buon viaggio!

Italia! Been to both places, Italy is a lot better. The people are nicer and the food is a lot better. Florence is incredibly awesome! I reccommend Fiesole, it's only about 10 minutes outside Florence and the views are absolutely gorgeous. You can see the clock tower in Fiesole from the top of the Duomo.

As a french who like arts, i 'll choose Italy.
Venise, Rome and Florence are some of the nicest area of art (architecture, "peinture", history)
Nice is just a big beach "station city" and Paris is Paris but for me Rome+Venise+Florence is much worth the travel than Paris and provence.

La France ! Les français sont plus sympas. IoI
Paris is very beautiful.
More seriously. I lived in Lille (in the North of France) and I visited Italy this summer. Those are two countries very beautiful. Rome is more typical. Paris is more tourist. I indeed have to admit it. You should not go to places to tourists.
lostmaple... > No. Paris isn't expensive. " Il y a des endroits " isn't expensive.
AlwaysOve...>I am amazed. You should not believe the press. I am French and I can say to you that there is many very courteous French, and not unrefined. It is as everywhere, there are always unrefined people.

Definitely Italy. France is very expensive especially Paris so in Italy you will be able to afford to do and see more. Also Italy is very interesting architecturally and historically.
