A children's programme on BBC 1 around 1990 called 'Alphonso Bonzo', about an Italian dandyish sort of man who swaps magic things with a school kid?

No it wasn't a rentaghost spin-off. It was based on a kid's book written in the 80s.

Yes he was. Then there was a spin-off series called Billy Webb's amazing stories, with a flying bike if memory serves. His dad was played by the chef in Fawlty Towers.

If you spell it "Alfonso Bonzo" you'll find loads of information about it.

Among other things, I found that there is a newly released book on amazon UK: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alfonso-Bonzo-Andrew-Davies/dp/0439951755

An entry for the show at IMDB: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0462077/

A picture of Alex Jennings as Alfonso Bonzo: http://home.zonnet.nl/jhibels/jennings/id38.htm

A picture of the old (1986) Finnish version of the book: http://pandora.lib.hel.fi/lastensivut/kuvitus/alfonso.jpg

A list of the six episodes of the series: http://ftvdb.bfi.org.uk/sift/series/18912

A link to new and used copies of the book for sale, starting at $1.00USD: http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/SearchResults?sts=t&y=0&tn=alfonso+bonzo&x=0

etc.

Were you looking for anything in particular about the series or did you just want to reminisce with others about it?
