no i am not saying indie bands are SUPPOSED to go mainstream. i AM saying that some DO get reconized. i mean, hello! modest mouse, death cab for cutie, the decemberists, frou frou, just to name a few ALL classify themselves as indie but still are major.

The Coral, at least not in the states. catchy, yet a deep, nice voice. great stuff.

Yet? What, are indie artists supposed to reach mainstream?

ETA: Those bands that you mentioned (with the exception of Death Cab, may be) are more well known, yes, but not necessarily mainstream. Big difference.

Less Than Jake. They are a great ska band with heaps of talent. They're from Gainesville, FL & they tour 24/7.

something corporate - their singer is the guy from jacks mannequin whos mildly mainstream but this band is where he was originally from and theyre awesome.
