Everyday, so many people end up in hospitals or worse, in graveyards thanks to smoking. Its our tax dollars that pay for this. Should we send those health bills to big tobacco companies? Should all people who smoke be asked to pay more taxes. Even better, should they be disqualified from Medicare benefits?

Folks, I appreciate your responses. Consider this analogy. I admit it's rather poor:
We are a hundred people in a close knit farm community. All have llivestock and we pay insurance for it. I have a pet tiger. It was a cute little cub but now its a full grown. Every day, it eats one of my cattle. Occasionally, it preys on your animals and little children. Every day, I claim a $1000 from insurance. Now the whole community is going bankrupt but, Hey! It's my choice and I do it willingly.

Make the tobacco companies pay but also we need to somehow put them out of business. If we could do that there would be no more cigarettes. But that would be almost impossible, I'm sure because as long as you have tons of smokers you'll always have companies ready to sell to them. I agree with you. Smoking definitely kills. Its very sad really but not a lot can be done about it.

I do think that people who smoke should pay more insurance. I also think that they should be required to work more hours at work or get paid less.

I get tired of dealing with people who go out on smoke breaks, while the people who do not are doing extra work to cover for them. I once had an office by a door, where I saw a guy who left every hour on the hour for a 10-15 minute smoke break. Then had the nerve to complain when he had to work a little OT.

People who smoke choose to do so and should pay for the consequences, as should all the fat people who choose to eat too much while sitting on their lazy butts. The only fair way to make this happen is to eliminate all federal medical assistance programs and tell people to take care of themselves. If you send the bills to tobacco companies, then what next? McDonald's?
Remember that argon is said to be the second leading cause of lung cancer, so who are you going to send that bill to, God?

Why stop there, lets deny benefits and raise taxes on people that like to eat candy or fatty foods. How about we mandate every one spend one hour a week in a gym and arrest people that don't provide their membership cards on demand. How about throwing the book at people that don't separate their plastics and paper when they recycle.
Or lets live in a free country and let people deal with the consequences of their choices without mommy and daddy government telling us what we can and cant do.

They already pay more taxes. And the 'lawsuits' that netted over 3 billion dollars did nothing more than make a few lawyers multi-millionaires.
Yeah... more money will fix it.

Uhhhhhhhhh, people buy cigs with their own money by their own free will. It's not the tobacco company's fault that they make money.
