Cold air intake (Think Fram Boost) and a larger diameter (maybe dual) exhaust system (Flowmaster). My guess around $750. Plus install. That's a good start.

Simply buying a software package and going through and programming your PCM is the simplest and most effective method going and it gives a lot of different options to different drivers to optimize what Chev has already put into this truck. Other less expensive items would be to convert the intake air filtering system to one of the ones with a cleanable filter. If you want to start spending a little dough, try installing one of the stainless steel flowmaster exhaust systems. To get a little more exotic would require some type of push like a turbo or supercharger package.

Check the gear ratio of rear end.
Might be a 2.73.
This is a gas millage rear end and no power.
If that is the case than consider a higher number gear ratio like 3.73 or higher.
If it all ready has a higher ratio than dodgemans advice seems very good.
Since its a 2 wheel drive you can find a used rear end at a salvage yard cheaper than replacing the gears.

i mechanic for a living, and a good investment is a good set of headers, and a good air intake, and a good set of performance injectors,,this will give it a pretty good boost, from where its at, it should be running around 200 horses right now,,you should be able to gain around 25 horses from this if not more,,also a good computer chip, will add another 15 horses to it,,with all this ,you can put some pep in it,,Chevy's are easy to work on,,and the cheapest to build up also,,you can get more bang for you dollar with them, good luck hope this help,s.

Personally (finances allowing) I would invest in a set of headers and K&N cold-air intake. A chip is a bit expensive. The new plug-in hand held tuners have been working really well! A new set of higher flowing injectors might also be something to look into.
