Then maybe she can build schools in the US and offer scholarships to the kids that do want it.. I just think she is such an over rated phony.. And always inviting her celebrity"friends" and the media to cover everything.....

I would say that it's safe to say that a lot of American children care about iPods and other stuff like that. I don't, however, think that it's right to compare iPods to education, or to say "American children" - as a generalization. There are still a lot of teenagers out there that do want a good education and who could care less about iPods. Music is music, but education is everything. I'm 18 and I have an iPod...but that iPod is not what got me accepted into college, and I think that if you have that mindset, then you'll go far. Oprah needs to stop stereotyping teenagers....what would she know anyways.

Kids usually don't care about what is given to them for free ( an education) they are more worried about what they want and sometimes can't have. what their friends have.

I have never heard a kid say' you are so lucky, your parents gave you an education for your Birthday/Christmas etc'

it's all about the electronics.

sorry, I'm not an Oprah fan, but she's right on this one.

She does have a point. At school, kids talk about their cellphones and Ipods. I personally think she is stereotyping the average teen kid. I would love a good school system with good teachers. But there might be some kids who are more concerned with how many friends they have on myspace then if they did their homework.

My children play outside ALL day. This is how it was for me, and I refuse to allow my children to adopt a sedentary lifestyle and join the millions of spoiled, overweight kids in our society. It's up to my husband and I to ensure they have discipline in their lives. We participated in activities and sports, and they will do the same. The "type" will be of their choosing, but the choice "not to" isn't an option. I like technology (can you tell?) but I know where to draw the line as a parent...

I surely have in no way heard of the call Cree, yet I surely have prevalent quite a few Dakota's and the two boys and ladies. And none have close by American, that i understand of. yet, you could not continuously tell through their visual attraction.

that may be true, but american kids overall compared to say kids in Japan (i lived over there for 1 yr) our kids a far behind these kids & kids simular to them. We do need to wake up as a country & pull our heads out because we are losing our kids overall... just an opinion.. no more valid than urs. peace

She's full of it...a lot of kids may SEEM to care about there ipods more then school but it's just something to get them away from school and thinking about stuff like that. There just kids give them a break...I'm 13 and i totally disagree with that statement.

if she feels so bad about this why not donate some of her money to the education system, granted she just built a school for girl only in south africa but let her spread her wealth here where she lives and has made all her money here...if its bad for kids to have these things then thr parents need to stop buying them for the kids

I don't think she's full of it but I also don't think she was referring to all American children. There are lots of children who value education.
