Oh my god I used to loooove him. Haven't heard of him in a long time. So yes, I'm a big fan. Reminds me of what Weird Al kind of came from.

Let's see...in 2002 Dr. Demento appeared at Capricon, a Chicago science fiction convention. That alone drove up attendance at the 3-day con from about 400 to over 1,000 registrants. The two shows he put on at Capricon (both in double halls) were both standing-room only affairs (my husband had to leave the second show due to his claustrophobia).
In fact, he stood in for my late father as the "father of the bride" at my wedding which was held at that convention (my real father passed away in 1999). Needless to say, the wedding was held in the biggest suite the hotel had to offer and they were turning people away at the door. When my husband and I turned around and faced the people when we were introduced as husband and wife, it was the biggest sea of faces I had ever seen! People at Capricon still talk about it to this day as one of the wildest weddings in the history of Chicago-area fandom!
Bottom line - let's just say I know HUNDREDS of Demento fans!

Dr. Demento has been to several science fiction conventions in the midwest. He is a hoot! He even has played a song by a group from my hometown of Manitowoc, Wisconsin.

I used to listen to it at midnight on a transistor radio. Boot To The Head. The great Weird Al before fame and stardom. Is it still possible to catch the show?
