Amoxicillin is a form of antibiotic, related to Penicillin. So in a way, it is the same. Though not all antibiotics are Amoxicillin. I ran a quick search on this a few weeks ago for another question.

Yup! Pretty much =)
Amoxicillin is used to treat certain infections caused by bacteria, such as pneumonia; bronchitis; gonorrhea; and infections of the ears, nose, throat, urinary tract, and skin. It is also used in combination with other medications to eliminate H. pylori, a bacteria that causes ulcers. Amoxicillin is in a class of medications called penicillin-like antibiotics. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria.

No its not the same. Amoxycillin is just one type of antibiotic, there are many others. It is a synthetic form of penicillin, I personally don't like it as its quite harsh on the stomach - can make you nauseous.
