If Jack Sparrow had behaved in the first movie, like he did in the second movie, do you think the franchise would have taken off and been as successful?

In part one almost everything out of his mouth was quoteworthy. He was a graceful fighter (with a bit of humor now and then) and he was very clever and intelligent.

In part two they had him doing slap stick humor and didn't give him very many good lines. They replaces most of his "quoteworthyness" with him screaming and saying "bugger" repeatedly. (He only has a few "quotes" that get recognized by the masses from #2)

If he would have bumbled, tripped, bumped his head and fell on his face while fighting Barbossa in part one (the way he did in the sequel)...If he was singing "I know whose blood you need" rather than showing us how clever and calculating he was, would we have all been so charmed by him?

I personally don't think so. Part two was a big disappointment (in my opinion) Bring back the REAL Cap'n Jack in part 3!

Anyone that has spent time writing, will tell you that taking away a characters "endearing" qualities and leaving them as a hollow shell of what they were previous is NOT character development. If Jack's character had "grown" people would remember much more of his appearance/performance from the sequel. Yet most people that give you their favorite "Jack quote" get them from part one.

I totally agree. The second one was disappointing. I love the movies but in the first one I was amazed by his acting and I laughed my *** off. But in the sequal, I was kinda ehh about it. I would watch it again. But I love the first alot more. BRING BACK THE REAL JACK SPARROW! (:

You're so right. He was drunk the whole time on part two and that is why his speech was slurred most of the time. That may had not work too well in the first movie. I think he will be sober by part three. You have to give him props though, he plays a good drunk and no matter what, he's hot!!

Go back to your day job, film critic is a little above you!

Ever hear of a thing called Character Development? It was already done in the first and the second had to develop the new characters!

I thought the "Dead Mans Chest" had some GREAT scenes and lines!
The Rolling wheel routine was well done and "Hide the Rum" was right on!

I think the series fell to sequel-itis. The first movie was such a sleeper hit that of course they were going to go for the money and make more.

I don't hold too much hope for the 3rd one, but we'll see.

That was kinda harsh dont you think! I mean Jack is an unpredictable charecter so you cant expect him to be witty and
on his game all the time!!!

besides everbody i know said his personality in the movie was
Hilarious!!!

i totally agree. part one was soooooooo great. didn't really like the sequel. that only thing that i liked was the special effects but the plot and the script itself cannot compare to the first one.

i could watch the 1st one over and over but i feel like i could only watch the sequal once MAYBE twice. BRING BACK JACK! but i usually hate sequals in general but i know i set myself up when i saw the sequel since it was bad compared to the curse of the black pearl.

i think that Jack sparrow wasn't as humourous as the first. He should've benn more funny nad interenting. A bit more foolish. Then i would totally say he is the best!!:(:)

yeah, i noticed that the part 2 was quite a bit sappier than the first, but sequals allways suck, so it's not all that unheard of
