What make and model of vehicle are you talking about? Anyhow the check gages means that any one of your vehicles systems has low fluid, isn't working or you are almost out of fuel. With the vehicle running look at all your gages, and if one seems high or extremely low then there's your problem, correct the problem and cycle the ignition and the light should go out. If not take it to your local dealership or repair garage for testing.

Usually when any signals go off, it means to check things out. The problem might have to be looked into by a dealer or could be as simple as having a loose gas cap. Check for loose wires, battery connections and fluid levels. Make sure all caps are tight and the belts are tight. Good luck.

I had exactly the same thing happen on my wifes mazda 626, I traced it to a faulty regulator overcharging the battery and causing weird electrical problems such as christmas tree lights on the dash
Other problems may be a faulty earth lead. particularly on older cars. (pre onboard computers)
A trip to the local auto electricians is probably in order

It depends which check gauge symbol came on. Some auto parts stores have a machine which will check your problem, they do this free of charge.

Check your gauges would be a start. :-) Usually it is something simple like getting gas, and oil change, or new battery. Just make sure you find out what the problem is before it turns into something bigger. :-)

it means that tyhe sensor in the gas tank has reached the reading of ""low on gas"" and it is time to go to the gas station and re-fuel your ride..............you probably can drive about 25 or 32 miles longer on this alert signal on the dashboard of your car but I do suggest that you do not allow the car to run out of gas...this is traumatic to the car and to other drivers....as the fuel system is keyed to run on pressure and the loss can cause lots of problems.....BUT f you ever do run out of gas as soon as you can turn the car off ..go get at least 2 gallons of gas fore the car and put that in the tank and then turn the key on to activate the electrics--- do not hit he start position for about two and one-half minutes and this gives the fuel system time to re-pressure and at that time you can start your engine__________good luck

What exactly did does the light say or what does it look like? What does your owners manual say? Is the light on solid or is it flashing? How is the car running otherwise?
It may just be an emission light.

It means check the little needle things on your dash.
Maybe low fuel.
Maybe low oil.
Maybe battery low.
Maybe transmission fluid low.
Maybe emmisions problem.
Look and see which one's not right.
They're called dummy lights for a reason.

Its time for a check up...try this to see if it turns off...
Turn the key off, hold in the reset mileage knob, turn on key for like 30 sec while holding this knob in...turn key off..and let go of knob...if it doesn't then I don't know what to tell you..you'll need to take it to the dealer or shop to reset.

It means you have a potential problem. Could be something as simple as your gas cap is loose, something as harmful as little or no oil (or oil pressure), no coolant, etc etc etc...
Check it out, dont ignore it. It came on for a reason.
