Dell is probably your best bet. Its easy and they set up everything. A cheap one would suffice. Intel are for longer lasting users (like cooperations and companies that need the reliability of intel.) AMd is cheaper but still very good. If your using your computer for school and your bad at computers, intel is good for the long run.

Well, if you are going to school, you probably want to stick to windows computers, as they are cheaper. AMD sells better cheaper processors, but if you want the best of the best, or notebook processors, go with Intel (core 2 duo)
Dell has a good low price line, but other good places to look are e-machines, costco.com cyberpower, and others.
Happy hunting!

Just of for school, huh?
If you only need it for school, all you really need is a $700-$1000 PC. Integrated graphics, 512MB to 1GB of RAM, 200GB hardrive (for music) and an AMD processor (energy efficient + cheaper than Intel, which is for high-end PC users).
Any brand is fine. I'd suggest HP, Dell, eMachines, Gateway... as long as it's not NO-NAME, it's fine.

Have fun!

I asked this same question of my comptuer guru friend, and he said "the cheapest one." they go obsolute so fast, you don't want to spend more than you have to.

I have an antique HP at home, hardly ever had any problems. We have dells at work, then have all crashed one after another.

I've been told AMD's are faster than Intels. I think processor speed it the key to performance.

For someone who doesn't know much about computers and isn't looking to do heavy gaming, I would suggest HP computers. For value and performance they are the best for the all around user.
