Yes. More and more .. but please, stay polite and dont too straightforward. Before asking a question in english, try to state in French "Good day.
Sorry, I do not speak French, may I ask you something in English ?"
"Bonjour.
Désolée, je ne parle pas Français, puis je vous poser une question en Anglais ?"
Asking directly a question in English to the common Frenchman can be felt as rude, even if he speaks good English.

There is some more from French that they do not speak about English. Because the languages are not well taught in France (to my opinion). But you will always find French which includes him(it). Saddened if there are faults, I am French.

They all study English in school. Some don't like to use it. If you try to use French, most French people will step up and switch to English when necessary.
You may find the occasional rude person, but for the most part it'll be no problem.

Even though French people don't speak very well, we do understand English.

Hi
English is generally understood in tourist areas.
Outside these areas it is more difficult. Virtually no one speaks English in my village.

Depends on where you go! In Paris and other touristy areas like the Côte d'Azur, yes, but if you are in rural Bretagne, probably not.
