Cell phone is a portable phone, while a pager just lets you know that someone called you. Pager just gives you the phone # to call someone back. You can't use the pager to call someone, but you can use a cell phone to call someone.

A pager will give you the phone number of someone that called, but won't do anything else; it's just a way of letting you know that someone wants to get in touch with you. A cell phone, on the other hand, allows you to talk to the person if they call it. Most cell phones also act like pagers. If you're phone is off or you don't pick it up in time, it'll usually tell you that you missed a call and will give you the caller's number so you can call them back if you so choose.
