READ and Obey = THE OWNERS MANUAL!

If you don't have One, you can buy one from the Dealer Parts Dept.

Thanks, RR

The engine was designed to run on 87; any higher grade octane is a waste of money. You only would need premium fuel if you added something like a chip, turbo, or supercharger.

Use what the owners manual says. Usually unless you have a high performance engine 87 octane is fine. The higher octanes can cause engine knock, and ping, and misfire, engine damage, and a waste of money.

Do you have the owner's manual? If not, I would first try the 87. If you get engine knock and ping then try the 89 and so on. Also stick to name brand gasolines. I prefer Shell.

Sometimes it says on the sticker in the door (gas door).. my old car had one that said 'unleaded fuel only' (interesting, didnt know that leaded fuel was a problem back in 2000, lol..)
My new car has a sticker that says WARNING: octane 91 or higher.

I would guess regular for you... BUT if you cant find a manual, or a sticker, go ask at a Mitsubishi dealer.

Use what your manual calls for. Only use the higher octanes if your car knocks, pings, detonates,...

Bill S is incorrect. Higher octanes do not cause engine knock, ping, or engine damage.

Higher octane fuels ignite at higher temperatures. This is important because higher performance engines tend to detonate (fuel ignition before the spark plug fires) with lower octane fuels.

87 is fine because of cost. You can and should once every 3rd tank use premium and once in a while put in an injector cleaner to keep it running smooth.

you can put whatever it just depends on the type of gas you want to put in. obviously the best is the 91 but it is expensive. 89 is a good choice
