I am so disappointed. You would think someone like her could refrain from being racist. Listen up, people! Racism will never die as long as blacks cling to past "wrongs" and blame currently living people for what happened in the past. Today's whites are not the ones causing racial tension - it is the black who cling to the past and demand retribution from people who are innocent of wrongdoing.
As long as people like Oprah aren't concerned about helping any white people, white people (and other races as wel, including black) will look down upon her for her actions, not her skin color.

Please hold your spirit for a moment because what I am about to say is not based on my skin color: (whew! got that outta the way) Oprah simply stated that her endevours and this very important venture is not about White people, it never was. So the point that you made is certainly understandable, considering that you are White, but Africa Is full of more Black people and she is simply trying to uplift young black girls. Young black women are the targets there, I read some Mysogynistic stuff that goes on concerning how African women are treated there and it is Horrible! Notice that the school also has no Men there. Maybe Dr. Phil will take care of that department... And don't forget that Oprah gives cars, and mansions to white folks daily so yall just hush!!

Hey ,if the statement is true ,then we all have seen the cycle of racism. We don't know how she was treated in her life, nor do we know the way it is in Africa..but Africa was under a apartheid .The unjust of that alone speaks volumes,She just built a 40 million school ,more that I did. She's doing what she can to make it better for some one.Oprah's on TV,all the time ,she is only human, you can't say the right things all the time ,but if its the way she feels ,maybe she should look in her heart to find a way to heal.Stop the cycle

I find that amusing. There is a lot of criticism over Oprah's fanbase, and it's not mainly an African American Demographic, I'd assume she's saying that to appeal to the African American audience, but being a Billionaire, I'm fairly sure she could abuse most any group she wanted without much trouble.

Because regardless what Oprah does for other people, the end results are higher ratings for her shows...and Oprah is all about Oprah. Same mindset as when she was offended when that store would not open their doors to her...after hours. What does Oprah do is not self-fulfilling? It's all about her ratings.

I agree with whoever said that is someone opened up an all white school and said that i am not here to please any black people that would be racism(which it would) but howcome its okay for her to say that about white people. Double standard and a very racist comment by oprah.

The school that Oprah is opening is a school to benefit the extremely poor and often times orphaned children of South Africa, these children otherwise would have no opportunity to gain an education. The people who live in these rural area of South Africa are black, this is not a race issue, it is a poverty issue. I think the work Oprah is doing in South Africa is amazing! Weather or not she likes white people doesn't matter, these children in South Africa need help and I am thrilled she is giving it. I am sure that if there were white children living in mud huts, with no money for food or school books she would help them too.

I echo what what Cheetahbill said.
Oprah is part of the problem, not the solution -- and that has nothing to do with her statement. I can't stand her or her pretentious celebrity-worship and relatively trivial, self-congratulatory pseudo-philanthropism. Her contribution is not even a drop in the bucket, it's a speck of mist compared to her wealth. She is souless indeed. With her, it's all about the almighty dollar. She is so wealthy and has such a cult-like following (people waiting for instructions), that she'll actually make a profit from this because of today's publicity and some show's all about how "good" she is for her contribution. Just watch... I'm not wrong.

I agree, this question could have been handled in a better way, but I doubt she understood exactly what she was saying and meant something different. I think she meant that she isn't looking for approval from others and she wants to help people. In this age of such extreme political correctness, you would think that she would have known better, yet it is still refreshing to see such honesty. I would like to know, however, why there are no white people at the school. If you find out, please let me know!

Reverse racism. Simple. It happens all the time. If white people say anything even remotely off the wall about someone of a different race we are labeled as racists, bigots, etc. but it is "okay" to slam the white people any which way that feels good. If someone had said that about white people (i.e. I am not here to please any black/indian/asian people) we would have to apologize, kiss ***, and probably lose our jobs anyway....if we were lucky enough to stay out of jail for spewing "hate" speech. And by the way, I am not racist, all people are Gods people, color makes no difference to me....this is just something that I have observed in life.
