I prefer Promark hickory sticks over all others. They have a great assortment of different sizes, excellent quality control, and they're durable. They shred up top a bit, but take a long while to break. The Oak ones are nice, too, but they've actually broken faster than the slightly softer hickory sticks.

I used to use Vic Firth, but had some serious problems with breakage. I gave up on them after a while. Zildjian were ok, but I don't think their selection is that great. Vater never impressed me all that much, so I can't really speak for them.

I use Vic Firth sticks and also used Vic Firth marching sticks in high school, but it all depends on what feels good to you. Go to your music store and feel each of the sticks before deciding.

I have success with Vic Firth. Good handling, great response and rebound. Pitch paired and weight matched.
