1) join a group and sketch together
2) experiment with different materials
like crayons, colored pencils, inks on wood
3) always carry you sketchbook and pencil
you will be surprised at the number of great things that will pop up to sketch if you are ready
4) read books by the great ones like Bernard Chaet

Read the following books:
" Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards.
"The Way to Sketch" by Blake
"The Natural Way to Draw" by Nicolaides
You could buy'em from Amazon.com, or check your Library.

every thumbs up answer is what i'd tell you, i know Lee Hammond, i see her at art shows quite a bit, she is very knowledgeable and her books are very helpful, and the "drawing from the right side of the brain" book is also extremely useful.
every artist i know also continues to take classes and practice practice practice. and there are groups of artists in many communities that get together and draw and critique periodically

I recommend the book, Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" You will be amazed at how much your work will be improved if you practice the exercises taught. It is excellent.

Lee Hammond has some really good books that helped me a lot...good just for anything you have a problem with.
Another thing is getting peoples' (especially family and friends') opinions. They can be brutal, but usually they can find something wrong that you didn't even notice.
