Counterexample:

7/10 divided by 3/10.

Both are proper but the result is 7/3 which is improper.

Divide 4/5 by 3/5

4/5 divided by 3/5
= 4/5 * 5/3
= 4/3

In the first answer given above, whole numbers are not considered to be proper fractions as they have a denominator of 1!

Any fraction divided by a fraction smaller than itself will result in an answer greater than 1 - an improper fraction.

e.g.

(1/3)/(1/5) = 5/3
