You can, of course, take up a hobby or craft. Knitting is inexpensive, drawing, whatever tickles your fancy.
You could also volunteer somewhere. Could you use your education to assist others? Not knowing what you are studying, many agencies/ non-profits need assistance everywhere. It would also look good on a resume.

I suggest going to the library and picking up a few craft books and see what you can make using items that can be recycled. Here's a link for some http://www.makingfriends.com/recycle.htm
If you don't have any items you need, ask a neighbor or friend. If you get a sewing machine, you can make things and sell them too. A friend of mine is making capri sun purses and plans on selling them. Here's a link for them too, http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?PHPSESSID=8040a40ba6b038b2e3244e7822e756a9&topic=3125.0. Hope this helps!

Ask yourself: What are my interests? What gives me a lot of fun and satisfaction? Activities that get me moving or something that requires sitting around at home? ARe you creative? Like to craft? Sew? Crochet? Quilt?
My suggestion? Join a gym AND a join a Yahoo! group for your hobby---there are lots of them out there. I belong to some quilting groups and an embroidery group. But there are lots of groups out there and they can help you get started with a new hobby.
You know what they say about idle hands? (smile)....Leave the food alone and take up something like cross stitching or something! OR how about jewelry making? Go to a nearby craft store and shop around and see what you can find for your budget.... I betcha you'll find something you'd love to try.
Good luck to ya!

If you have to find nice ideas for woodworking i can suggest you to check here http://woodworking.toptips.org
It's perfect if you are just starting out or if you're a seasoned carpenter. you will like it for sure !
It has almost 20.000 woodworking plans and you have a CAD/DWG software to view and edit the plans. You have step-by-step instructions with photos and high quality blueprints and schematics. If you are a beginner this is the easiest way to start your woodworking projects, and if you already have experience you can anyway find a lot of interesting ideas!

Cross-stictch, it's not too pricey, and it's really fun. When you're good enough, you can make your own designs, and then make items like pillows, blankets, frames, socks, shirts, and so on. It's useful and fun.
My sister has been doing it for years and has only spent around $23.00. You can buy a small design, at Walmart for $0.48 - $0.52, medium designs for $4.50, and large designs for somehwer around $14.95 - $19.95. All come complete with a needle, needed thread, a direction kit, and the needed material to stitch on.

You like to eat; do you have cooking facilities? Bake for a charity. Volunteer someplace, crochet, sketch, journal, whittling wood, do research on something -maybe related to your studies??? ceramics- you can paint them and have them fired- bird watching, origami (paper folding) -sewing, embroidery, cross stitch, quilting-
these things don't cost much, take up too much room and can be done in whatever time you have. It would also be a good time to explore different music. Have fun & God bless.

you can join pick up soccer or basketball games without spending money. do you have a camera? take up photography. I also used to go to a park or coffee shop and read or write. pick up a city paper (free paper with event listings and articles on local events) and see if thre are any free shows, bands, gallery openings. in every town there are things to do, you just need to look a little harder.

Go for long walks to a park or something, by a ball and play the game (basketball, football or whatever),. Eat wisely.
Read books for amusement, go to secondhand book stores, or join a library.
