I'm thinking about purchasing several copies of Marvel Spotlight #5 and FF#48 from a private dealer. Do you think it's a good time to buy these in bunches and sell them later when the movies come out? They're in pretty good shape so I think it may be a good investment.

Do not expect a huge quick turn around for your investment. The days of being able to quickly turn comics for profit are long over.

The only way to make real money in comics is to deal in bulk and be willing to sit on books for a while. Older books like the ones you are describing usually continue to appreciate in value, but very slowly.

Okay, but how much of a return do you expect on your investment.

Some collectors have that "Mint" obsession. You might be able to move them, but I noticed lately the comics/movie connection is not as strong (like it was in 1989 with the Batman movie).

People can read the reprints and a lot of the hardcore collectors who have them already usually want to upgrade to a better condition.

All in all out of the two sets of books the outlay is greater for Fantastic Four 48-50 but the you may want the most is the first appearance of the Silver Surfer (and lets not forget Silver Surfer one).

As for Marvel Spotlight #5 - I don't know if the movie has the legs to spill over into fandom (look at the straight to video Man-Thing mess).

My call is the Fantastic Fours are the better investment.
