Can I still have a recalled auto part replaced free of charge even if the recall was in 2001?

My 2001 Chevy blazer has inoperative stop/hazard lights. I found out there was a recall on a switch that was causing this problem. The recall was in December 2001, though. I bought this car used in 2004. What is the time frame for fixing recalled parts?

Recalls last for the life of the vehicle. Just ask the service dept. for any outstanding recalls for your VIN, all you need to do is give them your last 8#'s

Check with Chevy.com or dealership. Most recall letters go out to original owners not used car buyers. You can remove and install a hazzard switch your self. American car makes get a buy on recalls imposing mile restrictions and year restrictions. Now I work for Nissan japan does not get a BUY I have done recalls on 1984 maximas for fuel leaks and seat belts on altimas 1993 the only requitement is that the car drives into the dealership. American car makers say after 100,000 miles the car need replacing anyway.

Ask the chevy dealer this question, I'm not real sure but I bought a used grand am and they sent me a recall on the starting system when it was 6 yrs old so I really don't know what to tell you, maybe you have to wait for a letter from GM, ask the dealer to make sure what the requirements are. I don't believe there is an expiration date on recalls, though I believe the model of car must still be in production for a recall to still be exercised.

You can always get a recalled item fixed. There is no time frame. But I believe you'd have to go to a chevy dealer to have it done.

Yes, if there was a recall, and the faulty component was not fixed or replaced then you can have it replaced free of charge at your local Chevrolet or GM dealership.
