For browsing on the Web and using word processing, etc., what you have is fine; you will see a vast improvement in performance if you get the memory upgrade.
If you want to edit digital pictures / video or play off-the-shelf video games, such as Halo or any EA Sports titles, you should get a new computer.

I reccommend buying a brand new laptop from cyberpower or dell. But if you wanna upgrade your laptop and make it faster. I would reccomended getting a new video card with about 64mb of ram if you have a really really tight budget or a video card with 128mb-256mb if you have the money. Also upgrade the proccessor. Get a brand new one like amd. They're cheaper and have the are equivalent to intel proccessors.Order your ram from newegg. Its cheaper there.
Either that or you can try selling your laptop and save that money up and get a new one.
Best of luck finding your pc.

Upgrades are always fun to do, but you may think about purchasing a newer model. Most low end puters run in the 450-500 range. Plus since the other still works, can be a second computer for the kids :)

xp you need a gig of ram for it to run good. I had 512 in my system a 2.0 P4 processor and the 512 still had it lagging at times. I put another 512 in and its alot faster. but other than that it should be good like it is. maybe put a second harddrive in for more storage.

... NEW COMPUTER!! thats way too old.. Not just the ram but the motherboard, processor and graphic card as well. If your adding 500 ram..thats like adding a V8 engine to a 1860 Ford. Your better off buying a new computer. Micro. Vista just came out... so get your computer after january because vista comes preshipped in your computer.

Do not throw this computer and keep it safely with you in the same condition as it is. Nowadays, we are so much dependent on computers and in the event of your brand new computer fails, for some reason or other, you will still have another computer readily to work with. Moreover, do not connect this old computer with any e-mail facilities and store important information in this. Continue to operate once in a week to keep it in working condition. However slow it may be, this is what you started with and like everything near and dear to you, do not throw this one just because it is old.

The speed of the computer comes mainly from the processor. You also need lots of memory on the computer. I'd go ahead and get a new one with 512 MB RAM and a Pentium processor.

Unless you are going to use it for something that requires a better computer, why spend the extra money? Are you looking for a gaming computer? Will you be playing high def or streaming videos? If you aren't going to use it for thing that require more than a simple upgrade, then just upgrade it.

with specs like that you are most likely going to waste money upgrading when there isnt much potential left in it now. the hard drive is smaller than even many cheap laptops come with, the ram is unthinkably small and i can only assume the processor is rather dated too. upgrading jus aint worth it.
start fresh with a new computer to get the most from your money
